Dan Harrington and Erik Seidel have been chosen for the Poker Hall of Fame, thus bringing and end to the talk of having some younger players like Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu in the HOF.
The choice to put Seidel and Harrington in the Poker Hall of Fame is a good one since they both fill the requirements and have nice resumes. Seidel has claimed eight WSOP bracelets, and was second best behind Johnny Chan in the 1988 Main Event; you might have seen this scene in the movie “Rounders” when Chan beat Seidel for the title. Along with all of the bracelets, Seidel has over $10,350,000 in tournament winnings accompanied by a World Poker Tour win.
Harrington has acquired 2 WSOP bracelets, a WPT victory, and more than $6,600,000 in tournament winnings; plus he has made a name for himself after writing strategy books. The “Harrington on Hold’em” and “Harrington on Cash Games” series provided Dan with twice as much fame as his playing skills have. He is so popular that he even got away with giving himself a nickname – Action Dan.
An intriguing fact about Harrington and Seidel is that they both played together in the underground New York City clubs. Seidel commented on this by saying, “I’m very honored to be elected to the Poker Hall of Fame this year, and it’s an extra bonus for me to be going in with Dan Harrington. We have played together and have been great friends for my entire poker career. Both of us refined our games at the Mayfair Club in New York.”
