I think it is cool that eight different countries get to compete against each other in an international event called World Team Poker, which is basically the Olympics of poker. The eight countries consist of USA, China, Australia, Israel, England, Vietnam, Greece, and Brazil.
As captains of Team USA, I’m sure that Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth are keeping their fingers crossed in hopes they’ve chosen the winning United States team. They have selected 7 more players to play on the Team USA including Annie Duke, Erick Seidel, Allen Cunningham, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harmon, Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, and Chris “Jesus” Ferguson.
Phil was the definition of happy to have Doyle along side him as he said, “If (Brunson) accepts, I’m going to give him the captain jersey because he deserves it and I’ll play the number two spot,”
I thought it would be fun to know the captains of the other countries so here goes….representing China is Johnny Chan and David Chui, front men for Australia are Jeffrey Lisandro and Tony G., captain of Israel is Eli Elezra, Men “The Master” Nguyen is leading Vietnam, Ben Roberts is for England, Juliano Maesano leads Brazil. The captains for Greece are the two Georges… George Kapalas and George Theofanopoulos.
World Team Poker will be held at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas and every team must pay a $50,000 buy-in to compete. The format is five-table shootout and the rounds consist of No Limit Hold’em, Limit Hold’em, and Pot Limit Omaha. The last two players standing from each of the five tables will play at the final table. A really interesting twist to the event is that the team captains are able to make substitutions while the competition is going on so it adds extra strategy.
