Annette Obrestad was quite the phenomenon when she 17 years old raking in poker profits at an age when people aren’t even supposed to be playing online poker. Eventually, Obrestad made her way to stardom and has won several major poker tournaments since then. But if you think the story of Annette Obrestad is impressive, then you should really check out the story of Aashish Nanak.
Nanak is an 8 year-old boy from Delhi, India who took an interest in computers at the extremely young age of three. And if you think that’s impressive, Aashish started working on his first website at the age of four before getting enrolled in several affiliate programs. And what does this have to do with poker? Well not much really, but it sets the stage for what he did next.
After becoming an affiliate marketing wonder boy, Aashish started playing online poker at the age of 6 with the help of his uncle. During his 3 year career, Aashish made several small wins en route to his biggest accomplishment which just occurred recently….he won over $500,000 US dollars in a major online tournament.
Unfortunately for Aashish, the online poker site doesn’t want to give up the winnings just quite yet for the obvious fact that he is just an 8 year-old boy. Of course, the Nanak family is not going to go away quietly since they’ve started a court battle in India to decide if the money will be paid or not.
Whether Aashish receives the $500k or not remains a big question, but this still makes a great story regardless. In fact, I don’t see a story like this repeating itself anytime soon since few 8 year-olds know how to operate a computer – let alone win a half million dollars in a big online poker tournament!
